Abbey of Santa Giustina

Founded by Liutprando, king of the Longobardi, in 722, the abbey of Santa Giustina is an interesting structure in which the Romanesque style embraces the Gothic. Enlarged by the Marquis of Sezzadio Oberto in 1033, it reached its maximum splendor between the XII and XIII century, remaining in the possession of the Benedictine Friars until 1474.The terracotta facade is divided into pilasters and crowned by hanging arches. The interior, divided into three naves, houses fourteenth-century frescoes of great historical interest and an 11th-century floor mosaic. The Alexandrian painter Franco Sassi (1912 - 1993) was so fascinated by it that he portrayed it in numerous works in black and white.

Considered one of the most interesting neo-Gothic constructions in Italy, the church of Maria Immacolata was designed by the Bolognese architect Giuseppe Gualandi and created from 1900. The simple linearity of the interior and the right proportions between the various external elements connote it as a point of great artistic and cultural interest.
